Our facilities
We are a busy congregation with lots going on in our buildings, but want our facilities to be an asset that can also be used by the wider community we serve.
Main Hall
Our main hall is on the ground floor and measures approximately 15m x 6.5m. The floor is varnish floor boards and has a slightly squashed badminton court marked out. Natural light is provided by 3 skylights with 8 caged LED strip lights proving additional lighting. The hall can be accessed by the main entrance, along the corridor then through a single leaf door, there is also a double leaf door leading to a fire exit which can be used as an alternative entrance. There is seating available for approximately 100 persons and 10 folding tables are available which can seat up to 8 individuals. A 55" Television is mounted on the stage with HDMI cable for computer connection. A microphone and speakers are also available upon request.
Greenknowe Room
The Greenknowe Room is located upstairs and measures approximately 8.5m x 5m. The floor is finished with flotex carpet, stackable plastic seating is available for 40 persons. A 46" Television is mounted on the wall with a HDMI cable for computer connection.

Currently one side of the room is configured as a lounge area with a couple of 2 seater sofas, the other side has a small meeting table set up. A hand wash basin with hot and cold water is located in the room. There are 6 double sockets at various locations around the room. A 32" Television is provided on a portable stand with a HDMI cable for computer connection.
General details [St. Andrew's]
At St. Andrew's, adjacent to the Hall entrance, there is a small gravelled private car park for Church and Hall users which can accommodate around 8 cars with co-ordinated parking. Just across Downies Wynd is the public Murray Street car park.
St. Andrew's Church and Hall have broadband wi-fi coverage throughout with a Guest login provided.
Male and female toilets are located on the ground floor of the Hall with a separate accessible toilet which also provides baby changing facilities.
The Greenknowe and Erskine Rooms are only accessible by the stairs.
Ruthwell Church
Ruthwell Church is the oldest building in South West Scotland still in regular public use. It is a painted rubble kirk, which began as a long narrow medieval church. The Murray Aisle was added in the 17th Century and the apse, which houses the cross, was added in 1886.
The graveyard, which surrounds the church, is still in use and is bounded on two sides by a tall gated wall.
Our traditional Session House is located outwith the church yard in the large car park adjacent to the church. The Session House has been extended to provide a good sized meeting room and a large galley style modern kitchen and toilet.

The Ruthwell Cross
The Ruthwell Cross has been described as the most important sculptural survival of Anglo-Saxon Britain. The cross probably dates from the 8th century and stands 5.2 metres tall. It was probably used as a focus to help Priests preaching the Christian Gospel.
The cross was smashed in 1642, and the pieces left in the churchyard until they were restored and re-erected in the manse garden in 1823 by Rev. Dr. Henry Duncan the then Minister of the Parish. In 1887 it was moved into its current location inside the Church, Scotland, when the apse which holds it was specially built.
