LIFE EVENTS

We are a Parish Church, this is simply one that is assigned an area around it, by the national Church, which is the responsibility of the Kirk Session.  This means that we are available for anyone in our Parish areas whether they are a member of Brydekirk Parish Church or Annan: St. Andrew's Parish Church or not.

BAPTISM (OR CHRISTENING)

Baptism normally happens during the regular act of worship on a Sunday morning. There are 4 opportunities per year in the life of our Church to share in the sacrament of Baptism.  These are in the months of February, June, September and November.  This is for Adults (upon profession of faith) and children.  In the case of baptism of children, we the congregation are receiving the sacrament in our hearts as we see again that God loves us before we understand love.  The child is brought into the community of faith and given a gift with a promise that one day that child will open and receive faith of their own and come to salvation.

If you or your child would like to be baptised please use the  form below to contact our Minister to discuss.

Following this there will be a couple of meetings with the minister and others getting their child baptised to prepare for the service.

We also offer a service of blessing should there be no desire for the child to associate with the church but a celebration of the child's life as a gift of God is wanted.

There is no cost associated with Baptisms but donations are welcome.

MARRIAGE

Should you be thinking of getting married it is important to coordinate with our Minister for a range of dates before booking venues.  Ministers in the Church of Scotland can marry couples anywhere within Scotland (inside, outside, even underwater?!).  You do not need to be a member of the Church of Scotland and we are open to remarrying those who have been divorced.

We offer preparation for marriage where the Minister will meet with you.  During these meeting you will discuss arrangements and consider what marriage means.

There is no cost associated with the Minister for a marriage service though a donation on behalf of his time made out to the congregation would be welcomed.

Should you wish to use the Church buildings for your wedding this can be arranged with the Minister and will incur a cost of £150.

DEATH OF A LOVED ONE

Funerals are available for all who live in our parishes, not just people who are members of our church.  Usually contact is made through the Funeral directors who arrange availability of venues and celebrants.  After the arrangements are settled our Minister or other suitable person will offer support and meet with the family and take details relevant to the service.  Services can take place in the Church, at the cemetery or the crematorium.

While there is no cost for our Minister, if the service happens within the Church there is a cost for use of the building of £150 which is usually included in the funeral fees.  Donations are always welcomed.

PASTORAL CARE

We aim to be a Church that looks after one another spiritually and practically.  This is the work of the whole community of faith.  If you know of someone in need of pastoral care please let us know.
