THE BOYS' BRIGADE | 1ST. ANNAN COMPANY

The 1st. Annan BB Company has been part of our Church for over 100 years, the Officers and helpers are appointed by the Kirk Session.  All our adult volunteers undertake a disclosure (criminal records) check as part of their registration with The Boys’ Brigade, and are trained to provide a safe and caring environment for all children.


How do I join?

1st. Annan BB has 3 age Sections details of each are provided below.  They all meet on a Friday night at in St. Andrew's Church Hall, Downies Wynd.  If you are interested in your son joining you can make contact beforehand where we can answer any further questions or just come along on the Friday evening with your child at the appropriate time and we can take it from there.

Anchors

The core age range of the Anchor Section is from 5 to 8 years, (Boys attending  School years Primaries 1 to 3).

This age group has its own programme based on five areas; body, mind, spirit, community and creativity.  The emphasis is on fun and programme activities include games, crafts, stories and opportunities to learn and share in new experiences.


The Uniform

Children in the Anchor Section wear a core uniform of a blue polo shirt and red sweatshirt. On some occasions members will wear school trousers and footwear as part of the uniform.


What it costs

We charge an annual subscription of approximately £35 (this can vary annually) which covers BB Headquarters charges, including insurance. There is also a weekly meeting night collection of 50p. This said, we don’t want any child to miss out because of cost, so if you have any concerns about finance please speak to a leader in the local group in confidence about this.

Juniors

The core age range of Juniors Section is from 8 to 11 years, usually starting in the school year following their 8th birthday (School years Primaries 4 to 6).


This age group has its own programme called Juniors based on five areas; body, mind, spirit, community and creativity. The programme provides challenges, adventure and opportunities to learn and grow. The fun and engaging programme enables the children to work in a team and take more responsibility. Juniors also get the opportunity to go on camps and residential trips, and for some this will be their first night away from home. Throughout their time in the Juniors Section, children can gain badges and recognition for their participation in the programme.

Children in the Junior Section wear a core uniform of a blue polo shirt and royal blue sweatshirt. On some occasions members will wear school trousers and footwear as part of the uniform, but check with your local group.

The core age range of Company Section is from 11 to 18 years (from 10½ years in Scotland) or School years from Primary 7 and Secondary School.


This age group has its own programme called ‘Discover’ based on three areas; community, recreation and skills. Young people get the chance to develop existing skills and learn new ones, through a fun, balanced and challenging programme of activities. Young people are encouraged to have a say and help shape their own programme. They can get involved in anything from helping others in their local community to playing sports, trying out adventure activities or being creative through dance or art – there’s something for everyone! There are also opportunities to go away on camps and residentials, which are often the highlights in the annual programme.


Awards
Throughout their time in this age group young people can gain badges and recognition for their participation in the programme. There’s also an opportunity for young people to start out on working towards their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and within the BB to culminate in being awarded their President’s Badge.


The Uniform
Young people wear a core uniform of blue BB shirt & tie. Also members usually wear school trousers and footwear as part of the uniform and will need to bring PE kit with them for the games sessions.
